With my previous camera (Sena Prism), I ran it from an external battery pack (50K mAh!) plugged into the camera. It wasn't promised to be waterproof, but it was able to put up with some light rain. I was able to film non-stop for most of the day (1080@30).

I'm headed to the Alps for a week on a rented BMW K1600GT. I don't want to swap batteries every 60+ minutes, so I'm bringing my external battery pack, which means there's going to be a cable going into the camera. How water resistant is the SJ7?

I understand that the SJ6 wasn't at all well sealed. I'm hoping that the SJ7's better build will at least keep the camera from drowning in a bit of fog.

After a bit of looking things over, the charging/status LED's next to the screen are visible through the SD slot. Which means that tape over the SD slot, HDMI port, and speaker is in order. I certainly won't use the HDMI port on the road - no loss there. Ditto for the speaker. I'll have to change the SD at least once a day; I'll have to be a little more creative there.

They're planning on doing a motorcycle casing, if they get enough requests and votes. It's the same as the included waterproof case but with a cable that runs from the outside going in (included in the accessory). Head over to the Wishlist forums and do a request.

ARGH!!! Why not two weeks ago??? ARGH!!!

I'm riding in the Alps and the forecast for the rest of the week is looking wetter and wetter. The camera will have to be put away. :_(

Do the SJ6 and SJ7 have the same form factor?

Dimensions are different. Both camera models have their own motorcycle case available on the webstore.

Does anyone know what the connector is on the far (no the camera) end of the cable? It sounds as though it's a "cigarette plug" connector, not USB connector. Not Good. At least there should be an option for using a USB connector.

The SJ7 Star's motorcycle case? It's USB, not a "cigarette plug" :) motorcycle case SJ7.jpg

You should buy a proper motorcycle dashcam, innovv are soon releasing the C5 that look to be a cool camera.
I am not a motorcycle rider but those "large" boxes on the helmet look stupid so i would not do that, and i would not have a "big" expensive camera hanging on my bike cuz then i would feel bad just turning my back to the bike.
i am testing for Innovv on some of their older models ( C1 and C3 ) and i do hope they send me the new one too.

There are also a few other motorcycle cameras.

That being said a SJ camera is handy for when you are stopped and want to record something.
And i am also testing for SJcams on their latest action cameras, and while area this are new to me i like them so far.

Not being unkind here... It's your camera, use it as you see fit. I'll use mine as I see fit. :)

I thought I saw somewhere in the announcement for the case that it had an "auto-style" connector. Obviously it doesn't and I'm glad for that. :)

Funny, I thought the same. Happy to see a standard USB connector.
And if you'll ever need a cigarette lighter plug, the one included with the SJDASH is awesome. Tiny, gorgeous looking, and dual amperage output (1A and 2.4A).

Er... IMNSHO they're not worth SJCam's time to stock them. There are so many varieties, number of connections, colors, sizes, corded or not, current ratings (something of a misleader - a device draws what it needs and no more; a 500mA demand in a 21A socket isn't going to change anything). I guess an adapter with the SJCam logo is nice, but SJCam would be better off developing additional mounts and mount kits - such as a ball mount, or suction cup mounts, or mic mounts...

Only problem ( and this is a small one ) with the SJ USB power plug is that it have blue light inside, and blue light have not been trendy in at least 5 years, and if you are a trailblazer 10 years.

My last computer build ( casemodding ) are now on its 2 set of hardware and is 6 years old, but the case and so on,,,, well in there i have red LED light and Red cooling fluid, and the modified lian li case are painted flat black ( structure ) powder coating, also done by yours truly as that's a expertise of mine too ( 4 years experience )

Pretty safe in 2017 to say blue ( color or light ) are so last century.

So red LED's are where I should be? Golly! I was so in, when I had this watch, and didn't know it!

Ooooh, wait... The HP-01 came out in the mid-70's.

If LED color rules your life...
