    Yes!

YouTube compresses video to save space. The compression introduces pixilation, etc. Here's the way around that.

First, go through the YouTube validation process - mostly just proving you are who you say you are - no big deal. You now can store larger files than before.

Assuming you're shooting 1080, edit your video as needed. Use a video editor capable of transcoding - that is, you're working with 1080 video, but you're going to output (or render) the video as a 4K video. I use one of two editors that can do this: Shotcut or Blackmagic Design's Resolve. Both are free. Both take some practice to master, but there are a number of videos available to help learn to use the editors.

Upload your now 4K file (it's going to be big) to YouTube. Depending on the quality of your Internet connection and how busy YouTube is, expect to need at least a couple of hours to just upload the file. YouTube's processing will probably take another couple of hours. Even when published, it could be a day or more before it's available in 4K. In the end, though, it works and it's worth the wait. Here's a sample of what you can expect.

To be 100% clear, transcoding to 4K does not add anything new or sharpen the original 1080 video. If it's not in the original video, it won't be in the 4K version. The reason for doing this is to get around YouTube compression's poor video.
