    SJ7 STAR NEW FIRMWARE UPDATE 1.20 HAS BEEN PUBLISHED.

    SJ7 STAR Firmware Version 1.20 has been uploaded and published in the support site already, with links to the previously-released version, fw v1.18, in case anyone would want to revert back to it for any reason.

    Established that the .elf file isn't useful for updating the firmware, wich one of these two .bin files do I need to put on the SD card for the update? Both of them? I ask that because with the 1.18 there was only one .bin file.

    I think that if you put the firmware.bin on the card it will install as soon as the camera is turned on and will keep installing everytime you turn the camera on until you delete it from the card.

    with the SJ7_FWUPDATE.bin you have to select the firmware from the menu for it to update. Even if you leave this on the card and restart the camera it won't update again.

    Hello.
    1.20 have many bugs.
    Video recording is limited to a file size of 4 gigabytes exfat file system. Why?
    When shooting video in motion, the image trembles, twitches and is very greased.
    Perhaps it is because of the simultaneous use of correction and stabilization?

    That is actually a limitation of the FAT32 filing system, not ExFAT, and also not the camera. By default, the camera will format your card to FAT32.
    You may change the card format to ExFAT as a workaround although I haven't received word that it works on this camera.

    Depends when they send/sent out the camera.
    Straight forward to do anyway, just check in setting menu for FW version when you get the camera.



    I updated via the "firmware.bin" as I had had issues before manually doing it via the settings with the SJ7 FWUPDATE.bin
    Turned on camera and it automatically updated.
    However I had to take the card out and delete the firmware.bin file in another device (my phone) afterwards as when the camera was turned on after the update it would always reinstall the firmware and the touchscreen and buttons became inactive. It wouldn't get recognised being plugged in to the PC to delete the file either as I couldn't tell the camera ow to connect to the PC.


    So other words, I had to do this:
    1) Turn on camera with firmware.bin on card
    2) Camera automatically updated to FW 1.20
    3) Remove card and plug card in to card reader or phone
    4)Manually delete file via phone
    5)Put card back in to camera

    Ways and means!

    Hi,
    I think I found a bug on the 1.20
    I can´t change FOV using video resolutions of "1080p 30fps 16:9" and "1080p 60fps 16:9".
    It is stuck to WIDE FOV.
    Is there a workaround or should I downgrade to v1.15 or another version?

    I've mentioned this before to SJCAM but I can't find the post - it looks like the FOV is locked at these 2 resolutions because these are the 2 where the gyro works and this can't work with the FOV.

    There should be an option to select one, and a simple IF statement can then grey the other out. You can add it to the firmware wish list if you want and see if SJCAM pick it up

    Firmware v1.15 had a workaround... You could select the desired FOV at a higher resolution and go back to 1080p 30 or 60fps 16:9 and everything worked fine.
    Do you know if it´s possible to downgrade to 1.15?

    It certainly is possible to downgrade, just follow the same process using the bin file from the 1.15 update.

    When you shoot video for more than about 15 minutes, the SJ7 closes the file in use and opens another file. There is no break in the video.

    I can format 128 Gb SD's in the camera without a problem.

    Can you post here a small sample of a video that you think "the image trembles, twitches and is very greased"?

    1.20s distortion correction looks rather over-correction (Fov:wide, 2K). Over-correction can not correct by software. So I can not use distortion correction of 1.20s.

    After using Shotcut's (editor) lens compensator, I agree. There are several parameters that need to be adjusted to get the correction right. Even then the results (for example, light posts and telephone poles) still don't look right. It's a bit like a Mercator map's attempt to put the earth's sphere on a flat piece of paper.

    Ieri sera in occasione di una ripresa con SJ7 Star con i seguenti parametri: 1080, 60fps, Gyro on, correzione distorsione su e auto low light on, ho ottenuto un video tremolante e per niente bello a vedersi. Tutti gli standard di valore di default o auto. Firmware v 1.20. Vedere video esempio

    I noticed that the flickering pulses happened in a rhythm. I get the same on my footage when I use the Gyro. The pulses coincided with my foot steps.

    The gyro works by “cutting out” a section of the image, moving about that cut out window to compensate for the movement of the camera. This works on the image once the sensor has captured it.

    The movement of the camera created motion blur on the image as it moved with the shutter open. Although the EIS smooths out the motion, the motion blur is still there in the stabilised image. This makes it look as if it’s pulsating whenever it jerks or jolts.

    It also looks as if you may have your sharpening set to high. Is that right? The sharpening will also accentuate the pulsing a bit, especially the bright area.

    I have to practice walking smoother, rolling my steps in a fluid motion rather that the heavy jarring I usually have stepping. Supporting the camera with two hands, keeping the camera close to the body and keeping the muscles relaxed are supposed to help – I’m still working on my handheld technique.

    EIS, stabilisers and gimbals can help make smooth buttery images but they all need practice using to get the best images.

    Unfortunately the SJ7 doesn't have the option of changing the video shutter speed as a faster shutter reduces the motion blur (albeit at the cost of less light and therefore possibly more noise)

    Appunto sto utilizzando il traduttore di Google.
    Comunque posso affermare che il tremolio dei video Sj7 Star è causato dalla incompatibilità tra Gyro on e Auto Low Light on .
