Got my SJ7 last week in the UK from FAMLOVE on Amazon Prime.
Took 24 mins of 4k movie last week on one battery - footage looks great compared to my old SJ5000.
Went to start it up today - 3 days later - and it just won't start. I plug in the USB charger and it starts and indicates a full battery - but pull the plug and it stops.
Have latest firmware and two extra, genuine batteries.
Going on holiday with grandkids on saturday - lots of surfing video to be taken - have to take the old SJ5000 - I'll just have to return the SJ7 as I don't have time to deal with the issue.
Right now it is sitting next to me on a USB charger, doing nothing - and I could fry an egg on it!

Would love it to work - maybe come back when the problems are fixed. Also bought the remote I can't use and the extra batteries - will hang on to those until I can buy a reliable version!

UPDATE 6 Sept.........So I used my old 5000x on holiday at 1080p and it was fine. I then bought another SJ7 to see if anything had changed. The new one already had v1.15 firmware so was probably updated compared with the first one and so far it is working very well! Maybe I had a rogue first but the new one has been going for more than two weeks with regular usage, including using the extra batteries and remote control I had previously bought - all is well so far. An impressive little camera with great images.

    Hello Jhon,
For your information, I bought also a SJ7 Star on Amazon from FAMLOVE.
After 1 day of test, I have been to need change the battery with a backup battery also bought on Amazon. I do not know if this change is linked to my bug but in the same time, I tried to use SJ CAM Zone on my mobile phone and "Surprise", the Cam has freezed (Grey Screen), Power Off impossible, only way to power off the cam was to remove the battery.
From this bug , the Cam is "Out of service", I will return the cam to Amazon and i will buy a new with a new sellor.
I also tried to check the authenticity of the Cam on the official SJCAM site but I do not find the card with the product Code, and the Serial Number on the CAM (Battery compartment) do not permit the check.
Conclusion, I have a lot of doubt about the authenciticty of the CAM.
    Phil

Have you tried installing the latest version of the firmware?

On the camera box there should be a scratch off section with the serial number underneath.

I tried to install again the firmware but I have no access to the menu to update the firmware, so it is impossible !
Maybe you have a other way to update the firmware? with a laptop?
for your information, i had already the latest version.

As a Plan B, use the Reset option near the bottom of the "Tools" section of the menu. This restores all settings to their "just out of the box" values without having to do a firmware change. It's possible a setting was accidentally changed, causing the problem. Or not. Can't hurt to try this.

Also, what firmware version do you currently have? If it's V1.15, it's quite stable and should give good results. V1.20 adds some features, but isn't needed to shoot the video most people want.

    Er, the screen is blank?

If so, this may be one case where the USB firmware installer may be needed. @Jason Link please - if that doesn't interfere with your ...um... ecclesiastical obligations (<-- in joke of questionable value)

Actually, the state of the camera is, for me, unclear. It locked up with a grey screen. Got that part.
    I don't understand what's going on here.
At any rate. I recommend attempting the USB installer. The camera seems to be effectively dead. If the installer bricks the camera, there's nothing new. If it revives the camera, fine. Perhaps an error message will come up, giving a hint as to what's wrong. At the very worst, exactly nothing happens. No harm there.
