MY DIY MULTI-CONFIGURATION MONOPOD RIG Version 1 December 2014 Version 2 July 2017 Version 1 - Monstrosity Some years ago when I bought my first SJCAM, an SJ4000 WiFi, I was obsessed with making mounts and other accessories DIY style. I presented to a small Facebook group my “Tactical Selfie Stick” and it was an intimidating piece of monstrosity: It had 2 mini powerbanks, a flashlight, a nylon caster acting as a swinging stabilizer, attached to a gooseneck mini-tripod used as a gun grip, a bike cellphone holder, and a cellphone as an external wifi monitor. The whole thing was integrated to a ski-pole-type monopod that had a thin aluminum tripod screwed into its base. It was real cool to look at and hold, but it was heavy and I didn’t really use it. Enter Version 2 - Starshooter SJCAM sent me a camera gun-type grip (along with the SJ6 Legend Air) to test out, and I like it since the handle swings open to transform it to a desktop mini-tripod, plus, it was light. Now I need a reason to bring this, along with the remote, the SJCAM selfie-stick, a light source, and my folding metal tripod. After some tinkering, mixing and matching, I found the perfect combination. Version 2 of my Tactical Monopod Rig was born. Selfie-stick on steroids. Presenting my “StarShooter” rig. A multi-configuration Selfie Stick/Stand/Grip/Stabilizer/Joystick Stand/Stabilizer Mode: (Notice how the remote is triggered by the index finger) Gun Mode: Micro selfie-stick mode. Yeah, I know. Water droplets. It was raining outside, but I wanted natural light for these photos, just pardon the droplets.
