Once again my SJ8 heated up the point where it went into digital catatonia. Pushing the power button did nothing, ditto for the shutter button. If I didn't know better, I'd think the camera was bricked.

The standard next step is "pull the battery". My camera was so hot the battery wouldn't come out. That was the previous episode of "cooked camera". This time, before I put the battery back, I coated the sides of the battery with dielectric grease. This is a grease designed to protect and seal components, but still let connectors work.

I put a thin coat of the grease on the battery. This time I had to pull rather hard, but the battery did come out. Automotive or petroleum-based greases MUST NOT BE USED! Silicon grease is a possible alternative but must not cover the battery contacts.

The battery will still need an extended pull, but it will come out,
