Hi! Anyone having problem with this? I'm having trouble understanding some of this camera settings, regarding the cropp for any given video resolution. So, the only way to use the full area of sensor (just full area, not full pixels), as in photo mode, which is 4:3 ratio. The 1080P mode will of course be cropped and the vertical FOV will be thus smaller. Then you think: "ok, I have a 1080P 4:3 mode which should use the full sensor (like the gopro does), but then you realize it's the normal 1080P but cropped on the sides... so in reality this is a 4:3 ratio mode, but does not use the entire sensor... This is really troublesome and disapointing, because when filming surf (for example) you really need the extra bit of sensor and vertical FOV because you are standing really close to the camera, and standing. Also the "4:3 super" is useless, its still a crop. Image with the croped ratios below.
Actually I would just need a 4:3 that would use the entire sensor Also, on the SJ6 the '1080P 4:3' and '1080P superview' are exactly the same thing... I think whoever programmed these resolutions didn't have a very good idea on what these modes are supposed to do :\
Hi I never said anything about 4K, I just need the video to be non cropped, not full resolution (For example if you go to photography mode you have 4:3 at 16Mp and also 3Mp). Also, on the SJ6 legend specs, on the official SJCAM site, they have these video modes listed: 1.3MP 1280*960 4K @ 24fps (2880*2160) interpolated 2K @ 30fps (2560*1440) 1080 FHD 1920*1080 @ 60fps 720P1280*720 120fps 720P1280*720 60fps 720P1280*720 30fps WVGA 848*480 VGA 640*480 VGA 848*480 VGA 640*480 The 1.3MP 1280*960, which I assume would be 4:3 non cropped, is nowhere to be found, and would suit my needs perfectly. This is something even the gopro 3 does! It has a 4:3 1920 x 1440 resolution for videos... so, nothing out of this world.
You said "use the entire sensor". That means "full resolution" for me. SJ8Pro-s Ultra mode uses full sensor height when recording, but compresses it vertically into 16:9 ratio. If you plan to reduce the resolution anyways, then just compress it horisontally too, with the same ratio, and you'll get 4:3 again.
Anyway, it would be nice to have non cropped video at 4:3 1920 x 1440, or even 4:3 1280*960, and it does not, even though it's stated on the specs that it does have this last resolution. The diference it makes really is huge, check the attached image.
Now that I search further into it, the camera HAD this feature! At least before the non-hdmi model. Check the attached image from the Pevly review of the SJ6 legend (/sjcam-sj6-legend-review). Normal 1080P mode VS 1080P super mode. This mode still exists, but on the SJ6 revision I have its not working... (non hdmi model, V1.5.1)
Actually, the Panasonic MN34120PA's (the sensor of the SJ6) Data Sheet gives following driving modes for video mode: - Full scan1(1ch8port/12bit) 16fps : 4632H×3488V - Full scan2(1ch8port/10bit) 22fps : 4632H×3488V - 1080p mode(1ch6port/12bit) 60fps : 2314H×1304V - 720p mode(1ch4port/12bit) 60fps : 1543H×872V - Monitor mode(1ch2port/12bit) 30fps : 1543H×496V Those full scan modes have too low frame rate for proper video.
