    hey guy.
    what is the temperature of your sj7 when recording? i get really high temperature when i recording a video.(about 50 degree)
    also if i connect the sj7 to computer, it get really hot.
    Do anyone get this problem?

    Not normal..overheating issue with SJ7 needs to be resolved, chip needs a dedicated heat-sink ..the reliability and longevity of this cam will not be good. Going to avoid this one until the overheating issue is fixed properly.

    Keep in mind there is a heatsink - the aluminum case. Also, check the temperature at various resolutions and frame rates. [email protected] fps is going to hammer the processor, which means lots of heat. 1080 @ 60 fps is definitely not as hot.

    I agree that heat isn't electronics best friend, but I wouldn't drop the SJ7 over this issue.

    It does get hot, but I shot 4k for just about an hour and it never shut off.

    I just did a flight in a very warm Cessna 152 with the camera on the whole time. It did get warm but worked the entire time and I have had no problems with it.

    I used the Star as a dashcam, it did get quite hot. Never stopped recording throughout the entire 1-hour test-trip though.
    And the battery held up inspite of the heat. I guess they're right about the shell being a heatsink, would've burned the components off the board otherwise, running 4K.
    The other brand struggles to do that, and the results weren't as favorable.

    Finally, i recognize the heat problem is related to the speed of sd card. I change the sd card to sandisk extreme pro, the problem gone even i take 4k video for half hrs

    Yes, the memory card is a huge factor, as many have noticed. The camera struggles to write data on a slow card and works its hardest to keep recording while trying to save the files in it's cache.

    I am having same issue so I have changed SD card to Samsung evo plus U3 but still it is getting hot. I am recording at 1080p 60fps and using as dash cam. due to this issue my battery is swollen and stuck in camera.

    What firmware rev.?

    Processing produces heat. Lots of processing, lots of heat. In any event, the SD has nothing to do with it.

    The higher the bit rates and frame rates the more work the sensor and processor has to do which means the more heat is generated. It's the same with any electronic equipment (my Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 occasionally shuts down when shooting 4k).

    I have an aluminium frame for the SJ7 which draws heat from the camera and dissipates it making it run Much cooler.

    Agreed that the more the electronics work, the hotter things get. The aluminum frame was one of the deciders for buying the SJ7.

    I think the newest firmware is pushing the electronics harder, raising the heat output. Additionally, I'm concerned that all that heat in the case, with sunlight on top the heat from the SJ7, may become a problem.

    I sometimes forget how hot it runs until I decide to film outside in inclement weather and move it from the aluminium frame (which is actually for a Hero 4) and put it into the waterproof case.

    I keep meaning to dig out the infrared temperature gun to see how hot it gets in each case. But I can't remember where I put it.

    Is this an after-market item?

    Keep in mind the camera isn't dust-proof, let alone even water-resistant. If you look in the right direction, you can see the interior of the camera through the SD slot.
