I got the male plug I linked earlier to work to make an FPV cable with AV-Out and power. I carefully cut away A7 on the connector so I could solder a wire to A8, I use the broken-out GND and V connectors as well. The combination works for power (camera battery symbol shows a little lightning bolt when 5V is applied) and AV-Out in my FPV plane. Of course, using 1.2.4 firmware, I often have to remove the battery to get the camera to power down after entering FPV mode. I found a different male plug on E-Bay which looks like it has all of the needed solder pads and have ordered a couple of those to try: https://www.ebay.com/itm/382284514042 Edit: I got that adapter today (turns out the E-bay seller is in my town). It's the perfect choice for making your own cable. It only has one pad for Vbus, and two for ground, but all of the other signals (A and B side) are available on solder pads, yet it's small enough to fit in a standard type-c shell.
SJ8 USB-C pin assign No.1,12 : Gnd No.4,9 : Vbus No.2 : Mic(L) in No.11 : Mic(R) in No.8 : Video out No.5 : ID No.6 : Data+ No.7 : Data- No3,10 : ?
So, the Mic is the only confirmed deviation from the USB-C standard, so far? If you examined the mic pin position by testing an external mic cable, then the USB-C port of the SJ8 does not follow the USB-C external audio standard and I should correct my illustrations. From your video I took, that the pin 10 of the FPV cable is labelled as CVBS (obviously meant to be connected with the CVBS pin of external device). If this is not wrong labeling, then there are two possibilities: 1. This pin is meant for Video OUT signal for more complex external device (that supports CC detection and pin activation based on this detection). 2. This pin is meant for connecting with the Video OUT pin of the external device (meaning, that this is Video IN for the camera, that sounds very unlikely). The pin 3 is to be connected with an external GND and may be pair for the CVBS signal.
Hello. I am also having problems with FPV. I have SJ8-PRO FW 1.2.4 & the SJCAM FPV lead set. I can confirm there is NTSC video out on the green lead (CVBS), after you enable the FPV mode (swipe screen down to find icon). I would like PAL out if possible. When in FPV mode I find the power button inoperative. Disabling FPV mode then the power button does work! Note: If FPV mode is required. It has to be enable every time. The camera doesn't remember. My biggest problem however is the fact the remote trigger via the DET (blue) lead doesn't work. Occasionally it will randomly take a picture or go into video mode, but it is very intermittent and the camera some times it locks up. I believe this should work with PWM signal, although more detail on this function would be useful. I bought this camera to replace my GIT2P on my drone. The GIT2P remote trigger function works flawlessly. On the plus side. If I can get these bugs sorted the SJ8-PRO picture quality is superb.
Your FPV cable looks like correct. Where did you buy? If possible, please confirm pin connection of every line. As my SJ8 pin assign above is incomplete.
Hi nianeko2 My cable came from Aliexpress. Original-AV-Cable-for-SJCAM-SJ8-Pro Not sure that i can check the connections as the USB-C connector is very small. I not sure about your pin assign above. SJCAM support advised me the following: GND: Ground Electrode CVBS: AV Signal Wire VBUS: USB Electrical Main Wire RX: GPS Signal Receiving Wire VCC: GPS Power Supply Wire DET: FPV Signal Controlling Wire As I said above. Video out is NTSC on the CVBS wire and is only active when FPV mode is enabled!
Thanks for your information. SJ8 USB-C Pin No.3 is +3.2V. So this is VCC. Pin No.10 may be RX. Can not take photo, but at least with the cable you can use SJ8 for FPV, true?
I got my SJ8 today. The USB cable, yhat came with it, has following pinout (by visual examination): :
Thanks for sharing this; I would've contacted them too. They don't have any documentation even on the website - makes no sense. Anyway I made my cable to connect to my aerial gimbal and that part all works, including the camera powering on/off.
Thanks Beckler. Could you give me more info on the cable you made and the signals you use to control. I have a GIT2P camera which I can control fine. But the SJ8Pro does not seem to work with the SJCAM FPV cable! Regards..
Keith: I am on ver. 1.2.5 if that makes a difference. It's funny because I too switched from Git2 to SJ8 Pro! Git2 worked so much better. My gimbal is the Zhiyun Tiny2 and its signals are only Gnd, AV, +5V and ID. So I just wired it according to your list. Not sure what gimbal does with ID but I connected it to DET on cable. (As it turns out, my gimbal only supplies 500mA which isn't enough for this camera apparently but that's a different issue; I started a thread about it). I have to turn on FPV mode each time to get video out and also make sure Gimbal Control is On if you want camera to power on/off. I don't control anything else on camera - I don't have access to ID signal externally anyway.
Is it in fpv mode normal that the screen on the cvbs wire don't rotate ? on the touche screen it's oke. I want to used it on my drone, an it's hang up side down/
Here the same question, i ask it on the support site from sjcam. And 2 times they delete my message, and now they delete my account.
