    • The details of working with Windows, MacOS, or Linux are left to the reader.

    • These instructions require a computer that can use the exFAT file system.
    • When installing or removing an SD chip from a computer, use the file browser’s eject option. Not using the eject option may lose data or require reformatting the SD chip. When installing or removing an SD chip from the SJ7, be sure it’s turned off. Attempting a “hot swap” with the SJ7 may lose data or damage the SD chip or SJ7.

    • Later firmware versions can, of course, be installed over earlier versions. Earlier firmware versions can be installed over newer versions. The same firmware version can be installed over itself.
      • Installing firmware always returns the camera settings to their default value. Any firmware installation is the equivalent of a Factory Data Reset.
    1. Download the firmware, using the links listed below

    2. Format an SD chip.
The SD chip can be formatted using the camera’s formatting tool.
The SD chip can be formatted on any computer able to format with the exFAT file system.

    3. Install the SD chip in your computer and use a file browser to display the SD chip’s contents.

    4. Using a second file browser, open the firmware folder marked with the firmware version to be installed. The folder contains one file: SJ7_FWUPDATE.bin

    5. Copy SJ7_FWUPDATE.bin to the SD chip – do not put it inside of any folder

    6. Remove the SD chip from the computer and put into the SJ7, with the camera turned off.

    7. Power up the SJ7 and open the options menu. Tapping the center of the screen or using the button with the “gear” icon work equally well.

    8. Tap the menu block with the crossed tools on it.

    9. Scroll down the menu to the box with the firmware version in it.

    10. Tap the firmware name and follow the prompt to install the firmware.
      >>> DO NOT TURN OFF THE CAMERA DURING THE UPDATE <<<

    11. After the firmware is updated, format the SD. This removes SJ7_FWUPDATE.bin.

    12. Step through the options to return the camera to the preferred settings. The camera’s settings have been returned to their default values. The date and time of day are not changed.

I have deliberately left out using firmware.bin. It's simple to start, but has room for a couple of mistakes which might brick the camera. Anyone able to chase down firmware.bin, and knows how to use it, is welcome to it. Anyone else is advised to not use it.

Trivia: 卡升级文件 = card update file. Aren't you glad you asked?

谢谢 (thank you - it comes out sort of like "sheh sheh" or "zeh zeh")
