I haven't used the camera for a couple weeks, today I charged it for about 3 hours, after which it was extremely hot. Too hot to hold. I know this camera had issues previously but I thought they had been solved. Anybody else have similar issues?

What was an ambient temperature? Did you put the camera on top of some cushion or on top some other good temperature insulators? The camera should be on top of a hard surface (like a table) and in a well ventilated place during charging.

Was the camera running during charging? SJCAM cameras have an annoying feature, that they turn ON automatically when the charger is plugged in. I usually turn the camera off again before I leave it for charging. Haven't noticed, that the camera gets too hot this way.

Another good option is to use separate charger.

The camera was on my work desk. Ambient temp was 25℃.

I am doing some basic tests and so far have found that when the camera is plugged into USB and an option is not selected on the pop up menu it becomes very hot. If you select charging on the menu then the temperature is OK.

I am now trying the other options to see what happens.

Attach the camera to a computer usb and you get the pop up menu. Here is what I have found for the different menu options.

1 - Mass Storage - gets very warm/hot but not worryingly so.
2 - Ext Power - stays cool / does not get warm
3 - Charge - stays cool / does not get warm
4 - No option selected - gets very very hot. Too hot to handle. This is very concerning.

When no option is selected I would like to see the camera default to charging. This is probably not too difficult to implement.

How about switching the camera off during charging?

Since discovering this I will either select charging or use a USB power supply (non computer). It is worrying that if you just plug it in to a computer and leave it it will get very hot.

Actually, the camera charges while in Mass storage mode. Charge mode turns off the camera, but it continues to charge. In Mass storage mode, the camera is awake and processing file management. When the camera's computer runs, it produces heat, and the camera warms up.
