    Hi,

I do not know why, suddenly my camera does not work. When I press the "Power" button, only the blue right LED on the front of the housing is on. I tried to update the firmware via DirectUSB in accordance with the instructions, but I receive the following message:

    Found 1 AMBA device!
    Init DRAM approx.
    Found 1 AMBA device!
    Init DRAM approx.
    [0] Wait device re-init ...
    [0] Not found.
    BLD execute failed.
    [0] Failed !!

    Please help.

Please remember that this is a community forum where camera users help each other out. You will need to submit a tech support ticket as well as asking here to get help from the tech support staff.

I can't help but someone may be along soon who can.

Based on what was displayed, the camera may have memory problems (it seems to be able to find the Ambrella processor, but is unable to find the processor's DRAM [the memory]). It doesn't really matter for you. The camera should jump right into the SJCam logo on a white field, not show things starting up.

Go back to your seller for a warranty replacement or submit a ticket to SJCam support. If at all possible, include a picture of the text.

Given the things being shown on the screen, I doubt the FW_UPDATE.bin route will work. The camera never gets to the point of showing the menus. Or does it?

The desperation play is to use V1.20's firmware.bin file. The quick version: format SD with exFAT. Copy firmware.bin to the SD. Put the SD in the camera, turn it on and watch the blue ring in the button on top of the body. It should blink on two separate occasions. At the end of the update all of the LED's will turn off. To be sure you don't break into the update (Not A Good Idea), start the process and come back 5-10 minutes later. Pull the SD, turn on the camera, and hope the wind was at your back.

IMNSHO this won't work. But, hey, it's bricked, so what's to lose?

I remember reading a post somewhere where the elf file helped unbrick a bricked camera, I’m not entirely sure of the process though.

Thanks for the answers. I have already updated the firmware to version 1.20. This happened after the upgrade, but the camera worked for some time. The screen is black and nothing is displayed on it. These messages come from the DirectUSB program when I tried to update the firmware again (file from the version 1.20 archive - SJCAM_SJ7_STAR-V1.20_20171127_1729.elf).

Oh deer, well unless Emerson has any further help I’d strongly suggest raising a support ticket.

I think I will go to the seller for a warranty. Thank you very much for your advice. Best regards

The problem is, once something, phone or camera or (for all I know) smart thermostat, is bricked, the show's over. Bricked is bricked; the device may have value as a paperweight or door stop or something to throw in frustration.

There is soft bricking, where the device shows some signs of life. Often a boot loader can be woken up and something can be stuffed into the device to reverse the problem. And there's boot looping: the device seems to start, gets to some point, and start all over again (AKA Wash, Rinse, Repeat) - coders are more likely to get the joke).

Anyway, it appears that the camera in question went through "it was working and then just went dark". Not much to say here but to quote Dr. McCoy...

BLD probably refers to the boot loader, so it seems, that the boot loader fails to execute (damaged loader).
With elf file it might be possible to rewrite the loader, but you must first ask it from SJCAM.

    @Jason: I've created a ticked, thx
@RBEmerson: True :) But maybe there are still ways to bring it back to life I do not know about. Shipping to China (bought at GearBest), waiting for repair and shipping, it's a lot of time :(
@Sulev Svilponis: I am waiting for a response from SJCAM technical support. thx

@mnemonic If the firmware testing (?) installer doesn't work, I just don't see a way around this. Going back to the error messages in your OP, the DRAM just isn't available. No memory, no hope. Sorry. :(

BTW where are you? Probably knowing it won't fix much, but just maybe I can think of a Plan B if I know where in the world you are.

    Init DRAM ok.

    [0] Wait device re-init ...
    [0] Not found.
    BLD execute failed.

Sigh... I agree, it looked like you were back in the game. But I guess not. This pretty well seals it - the camera is DOA (dead on arrival).

Poland is ...uh... on Central European Time (6 hrs ahead the US east coast)?

Trying the new flavor of the tool can't hurt, at least. I'll be happy to be proved wrong, but I still think the problem is a hardware problem, not a bit of bad luck with firmware.

What kind of warranty do we get with the SJ7 as a matter of interest? Mine came from Amazon through the SJCAM UK arm but the address shows as China. If I ever need to get a warranty repair I’m not fancying my chances.

I don't have the SJCam warranty in front of me, but the one that most likely applies is the one from Amazon (as seller). It's up to Amazon to fulfill their obligations, not for you to have to deal directly with SJCam. If Amazon, in your opinion, fails to respond, then your only other option is to deal with SLCam directly.
